Fire safety logs for hairdressers, salons and beauty businesses
Salons have a few particular risks: heated tools, flammable products, laundry and clients who may be hard to move quickly. A short weekly check and a written plan keeps everyone safe and your records in order.

- e.g. hair dryers, straighteners, tumble dryers, kettles, wax heaters
- e.g. hairspray and aerosols, chemicals, towels, paper, plastics
- e.g. clients in chairs or treatment rooms, staff, visitors
- e.g. clients mid-treatment with colour or foils, people with limited mobility
- e.g. who switches off equipment, checks treatment rooms, calls 999 and takes the roll

Questions from hairdressers, salons and beauty
What fire safety checks should a hair salon do?
Check hot tools are off and stored safely, products are stored away from heat, dryer filters are clean, cables and sockets are not overloaded and routes from treatment rooms are clear. Record the results weekly.
How should salon staff evacuate clients mid-treatment?
Agree in advance what staff do about colour, foils and treatments in progress, who calls 999 and where everyone meets. Practise it in a drill and record the result.
Do salons need a fire risk assessment?
Yes. If you are responsible for non-domestic premises you must carry out and review a fire risk assessment, and in England keep a written record.
